social venture partners

A few months ago, Todd and I joined the Minnesota chapter of a very cool organization called Social Venture Partners.  You know how venture capitalists invest in and help start-up businesses?  It’s that same concept but SVP invests in nonprofit organizations that are poised for growth.  All the chapter members donate some money and then select a few nonprofits to invest in.  Although the financial investment is important, members also donate their time, expertise and connections to help nonprofits reach their full potential, creating a collective impact that helps them deliver bigger and better results.  Yesterday, I was lucky enough to visit one of SVP Minnesota’s investments….Breakthrough Twin Cities.  They’re an amazing organization that helps motivated students overcome adversity by preparing them for college with the support of older students who are passionate about education.  These are some program participants in their science classroom and I have to say I have never seen a more engaged, motivated, and excited group of students.  And the teachers?  Simply amazing.  A very inspiring experience!
